GUAYAQUIL SUSPECTED DENGUE CASES
The infectious Disease Hospital has reported eight suspected cased of Dengue fever. Currently five of the cases are hospitalized. January, February, and March are usually the highest reports of incidence.
The hospital also reported in 2009 there were the following reported cases:
Dengue classic: 86
Dengue hemorrhagic: 11
Malaria (not severe): 36
Malaria-cerebral: 24
Analysis:
We recommend that all residents and visitors be prepared for a fairly severe El Niņo
season in 2010 as the last severe episode was about five years ago. Expect heavy rains along the
coast with transportation being effected. Also, severe damage may happen to roadways.
