Four deaths are believed to have been caused by anthrax and five are being treated for the disease in Koraput a district of Orissa. Hundreds became sick after consuming infected meat in Lohaba village which has a history of people who eat meat from dead cattle (anthrax). Hindu Times

Six-years ago Delhi transferred buses from diesel fuel to natural gas and there was a great improvement in the air quality. However, with prosperity there are over 1000 new cars a day being introduced into the traffic count. The preferred fuel is diesel due in part to its lower cost than regular gasoline. The air quality is diminishing rapidly and there is an increase in breathing problems along with new cases of asthma.

Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangal account for one-third of the crime in large cities in India. Delhi is the crime capital and has been so for the past five years. Since rape cases have been documented by the National Crime Records Bureau, rapes have jumped 678%. Over 75% of rape victims knew the rapist. Many rapes go unreported.

India is rated as having one of the highest rates of abuse of wiretapping. NGO's are among the largest complainants of this practice. Source -Escape India

This past Wednesday two Canadian girls age 12 and 14, allegedly were molested by a security staff at the upscale resort in Kerala. The suspect was arrested and released on bail. The girls were visiting on holiday from Canada. Hindustan Times

Two live bombs found in Guwahati-bound train and diffused at Bihar's Katihar railway station. Police suspect a terrorist group is responsible. Hindustan Times

December 24, 2007

On December 24, 2007, a Japanese tourist was reported missing in Agra which is the home to the Taj Majal. The tourist had been booked on a train and never reported to his waiting taxi. A year ago there was also another missing Japanese tourist who has not been located.

Crimes appear to be on the upswing in Agra. Over the last several months there have been several sexual assaults against tourists and in November acid was thrown on a Russian tourist.

Earlier this month a call center for Air India outside of Delhi received an email stating that the airport in Delhi would be blown up on January 12th, 2008.
